Welcome to Laureana Cilento
Situated on a promontory sloping down towards the sea, the characteristic medieval village of Laureana enjoy panoramic views of the beautiful Agropoli and the Cilento coastline. Completely surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, the small village enjoys a view of the sea and the lights of the Cilento coastline from above and the island of Capri can be seen from far away. The name of the village derives from the Basilian "laure" small cells that probably gave their name to the castle (Castellum Lauri) built to defend itself from the Saracens; or from the "lauri" laurel trees that dominate the surrounding area. From the village it is possible to visit the characteristic localities and villages of the high Cilento but also the wonderful beaches of Agropoli and Castellabate.
Places to visit
Laureana allows to spend relaxing holidays between nature and history, several trekking and naturalistic paths really beautiful allow to cross the suggestive Monte Stella and visiting the characteristic villages on its slopes. One of the places to visit is definitely the Santuario dell'Acquasanta, which is flanked by the Pozzo Sacro, whose waters are believed to be miraculous for eye diseases. The Convent of San Francesco, founded by San Bernardino da Siena, and the attached church, rich in works of art dating from the 15th to the 18th century, are also interesting, especially for the wonderful view that you can enjoy. Not far away is the majestic Rocca Cilento Castle, a popular location for events and moments of pure relaxation with a unique view of the Cilento coastline. The Vichiano Museum, another jewel in the crown of Cilento, is located inside Palazzo De Vargas in Vatolla, a district of Perdifumo. The Palace, an ancient castle controlling the territory, hosted the philosopher Gian Battista Vico for nine years.

The area offers a variety of gastronomic experiences. Among the most popular is the Gelateria Di Matteo of the famous master ice-cream maker Raffaele del Verme in Torchiara. It is also possible to visit and organise a degustation with the Case Bianche organic wine cellar, a small business whose organic wine has made the wine world discuss. Among the recommended restaurants you can visit the Lamione restaurant that offers a varied cuisine with local ingredients and the braceria, definitely not to be missed is the pizzeria A' RO' Squerc in the small village of Perdifumo, which offers a light pizza with quality ingredients and fantastic handmade fried food. Finally, you can visit and buy the best local products including preserves in evo oil and homemade conserves at the Cibo Autentico store in Rocca Cilento.
